DIARY Study FAQ
Find answers to common questions about the DIARY Study, including eligibility, appointments, glucose monitoring sensors, study procedures, food diary submission, test results, and reimbursement.
Eligibility criteria
1. What’s the eligibility criteria for the study?
Age between 21 to 40 years old
Singapore Citizen/PR
Fully or mixed Asian
Not pregnant/ breast feeding
Not diagnosed/ suspected to have diabetes
Currently not on cancer/steroid therapy
Not diagnosed with any haemoglobinopathies or haemolytic anaemia
Did not had for bariatric surgery or are using medications for weight loss
Did not had any surgery to remove a portion of the pancreas
Appointment
2. How long is the study visit appointment?
The appointment duration is up to 3 hours based on the selected timeslot.
3. How many visits are there for this study?
Only a single study visit is planned. However, in uncommon situations where the participant is unable to complete the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on the same day, or if sensor data recorded is less than 7 days, participant will be asked to come back for another study visit.
4. Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
You can cancel and reschedule a new appointment until 7 days before your appointment using the same CalSG link. Rescheduling is not possible if it is less than before your scheduled appointment. Please email the study team at diary@sgh.com.sg to let them know and they will assist you accordingly.
5. What do I do if I am feeling sick the night before or on the day of my appointment?
Please contact the study team as soon as possible at diary@sgh.com.sg to inform them, so that your slot can be given to another participant and a new appointment can be scheduled for you.
6. Are there any weekend slots?
No, there are no weekend slots for now.
Glucose monitoring sensor
7. What do I do with my continuous glucose monitoring sensor after removal on Day 14?
Please write down the date of removal on the small Ziplock bag and mail it back to the study team using the Smartpac provided to you.
Upon sensor removal, please do complete the Skin Reaction Form 2 – the QR code can be found on the hardcopy information sheet provided to you during recruitment.
8. My continuous glucose monitoring sensor just fell off, what should I do?
Please write down the date sensor fell off onto the small Ziplock bag and mail it back to the study team using the Smartpac provided to you.
If the sensor fell off before 7 days, please contact the study team to let them know. You will need to reinsert a new sensor at a time convenient for you.
9. The tape covering my sensor is peeling off, what should I do?
Carefully peel the tape by pulling toward the stretchable ends, allowing the adhesion to come loose while ensuring sensor remains firmly attached. Replace with a new tape.
10. What is the brand and model of CGM I am wearing for DIARY study?
Abbott Lifestyle Libre View Pro IQ. This is not available commercially and is only brought in for research purposes.
11. Will I be able to view live glucose readings for the sensor inserted?
No, the glucose monitoring sensor report will be sent to you via email once the study team receives the sensor back from you.
12. What constitutes a skin reaction after sensor removal?
Possible skin reactions include skin redness, rash, and bruising.
13. The sensor insertion site is painful, what should I do?
If the sensor insertion site continues to hurt after 24 hours, please reach out to the study team to receive advice on the possibility of early removal (before 14 days of data recorded).
Study procedures
14. Can I choose to opt out of certain study procedures?
If you choose to participate in the study, all study procedures will need to be completed to the best of your abilities. Reimbursement is only provided upon completion of study procedures.
Blood test
15. When will I get my blood test results?
Your blood test results will be sent to you, once we have received your sensor back from you, along with your CGM Sensor Report. You can expect to get both reports approximately 2-4 weeks upon receiving your sensor back from you.
Blood test results include HbA1c and OGTT.
Food diary
16. When do I need to submit my food diary?
Please submit your food diary on day 2 and day 3 of the sensor wear.
17. What do I do if I submit incomplete descriptions for my food diary?
Please submit another form with the missing descriptions for the food diary.
18. What if I forgot to include the Rubik’s cube in food diary photos?
Please retake the photos with the Rubik’s cube and resubmit the formSG for food diary (unless you have already consumed your food!)
19. What if I missed out and forgot to take pictures for one meal?
Please re-submit your food diary for the next meal.
20. What if I lost my Rubik’s cube?
Please contact the study team and they will arrange a date to pass you a new one.
Reimbursement
21. When will I receive my reimbursement?
Upon completion of study procedures and return of sensor, participants can expect to receive the reimbursement within the next 1-2 months.
22. How will I receive my reimbursement
You will receive your reimbursement via paynow.
